UTG’s new flow animations illustrate mixing performance in industrial scale

CFD simulation: ZETA

“Our method complements traditional laboratory and pilot-scale physical modeling by allowing for studying mixer-induced flows on a full industrial scale. Analytical scaling of lab results to an industrial scale is a challenging task that may case-by-case involve considerable uncertainties,” says Niclas Tylli, Technical Manager at UTG Mixing Group.

“Whenever a new mixer is designed, the customer benefits from the fact that the reactor or mixing tank is numerically simulated. This helps ensure that the mixer works exactly as designed. The results of the simulation can be used to produce a flow animation that shows in advance how the mixer will work,” Tylli adds.

The animation helps understand the three-dimensional flow and how the flow changes when the mixing parameters or mixer configuration are changed. The customer can receive an even more accurate and quantitative analysis of mixer performance, if necessary, by examining the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) results that contain important mixer-related process data. The ultimate benefit for the customer, of course, is a better mixer, not the animation itself.

The flow animations are especially helpful to R&D experts, who can study all the mixing options for developing their own processes. Based on the animations, they can quickly visualize the shape, number and coverage of the circulation zones. By combining this information with their own experience and expertise, they can then evaluate the suitability of the mixer for the problem to be solved.

Unlike most companies in the industry, UTG performs CFD simulations itself. The competence is now available in both Germany and Finland, where the team’s CFD capabilities have just been strengthened.

“In this way, we are able to serve our customers even better by providing even more comprehensive data in a modern and usable way,” Tylli says.

UTG already has basic CFD files for all its own mixers that enable fast track applications for the customer’s mixing cases. The simulation is included in the price of any UTG mixer and is also available separately as a paid service under certain conditions.

We wish you a peaceful Christmas after a busy and eventful autumn

UTG Mixing Group has made frequent appearances in industry news in both Germany and Finland this autumn. We have entered into significant trade agreements, developed our operations, and most recently announced our likely merger with SPX FLOW next year.

From the perspective of our customers, the merger will mean an even stronger base in technological know-how and also additions to our already broad product range. As a result, we are looking to 2021 with an open mind and see this as an opportunity to strengthen our shoulders and become part of a major international company. We are confident that the merger will enable us to serve you even better in the future.

All of the above combined with countless unmentioned efforts this past season have enabled us as a company to take a big leap forward, which we hope has been reflected positively among our customers and partners. So it is in high spirits that we can now slow down and enjoy the Christmas holidays. Warm thanks for your excellent cooperation!

We wish you and your loved ones a Peaceful Christmas & Happy New Year in 2021!

UTG Mixing Group and SPX FLOW Signed Combination Agreement today

UTG Logo

You may have heard that Plc Uutechnic Group Oyj (together with its subsidiaries, “UTG Mixing Group” or “UTG”) has entered into a combination agreement under which SPX FLOW will launch a recommended voluntary public tender offer for all of the issued and outstanding shares in UTG for a cash consideration of EUR 0.60 per share. SPX FLOW is a leading provider of process solutions for the food, beverage and industrial markets. We are very excited about this news and believe this deal will provide excellent growth opportunities for our Stelzer, Uutechnic, and Jamix mixers business.

Currently we expect the transaction to be finalized in the first quarter of 2021. SPX FLOW will on or about 14 December 2020 publish a tender offer document and commence the offer period on or about 15 December 2020. Should SPX FLOW obtain more than 90% of the total number of the issued and outstanding shares in UTG and voting rights attached thereto, SPX FLOW intends to initiate squeeze-out proceedings under the Finnish Companies Act and cause UTG to apply for the delisting of its shares from Nasdaq Helsinki as soon as permitted and reasonably practicable under applicable laws and regulations.

Until the transaction is completed, there are no changes to how UTG will operate, go to market, or serve its customers. The completion of the transaction is not expected to have any immediate material effect on the operations of UTG or the relations with UTG’s customers and partners. We ask that you please continue to work under the current agreements with UTG (Uutechnic, Jamix, or Stelzer), as applicable, until further notice.

In their public statements, SPX FLOW has said UTG’s products, skilled team members, technical expertise, manufacturing, and sales channels align with their strategy to grow their core business in mixers, pumps, and valves. We know from talking with them throughout the deal process that SPX FLOW views UTG’s existing channels and partners as key assets in their acquisition, and they have expressed their excitement to begin working with you once the deal closes and they are able to officially do so.

Thank you for your continued support of UTG’s mixers business. We have begun integration planning with the SPX FLOW team and will share more with you as it becomes available.

UTG office in Jakobstad serves Ostrobothnia and Sweden

Mattias Gripenberg at UTG's new office in Jakobstad

UTG Mixing Group has opened a new office in Jakobstad to serve industrial companies in the coastal Ostrobothnia region of Finland, including the cities of Jakobstad and Karleby. The working languages of the new office are both Finnish and Swedish, making it possible to serve customers also in Sweden and other Scandinavian markets.

“Being located in Jakobstad means we can be closer to end users and provide immediate consultation regarding various mixing tasks, even at the customer’s site. We can also participate in installation inspections and commissionings, as well as inspections of older equipment. At UTG Mixing Group, the customer always communicates directly with one of our technical experts,” says Mattias Gripenberg, Sales Manager at UTG’s new Jakobstad office.

UTG has previously been active in the Ostrobothnia region of Finland, but the new office serves as a single regional base for its experts. Sales Manager Henri Malmi also works at the new office, which is situated in the center of Jakobstad at the address Choreauksenkatu 13, 3rd floor.

UTG’s process specialists are committed to serving the customers locally

Also remote specialists from other locations are involved whenever the case requires.

“Bringing the regional organization together in one office is a big advantage in terms of organizing tasks and teamwork. Our shared premises allow us to fully utilize our combined competences and improve both communication and social interaction within our sales organization,” Gripenberg adds.

Both sales managers at the new office are qualified professionals in mixing technologies.

“I joined UTG in 2007 and have been involved in industrial mixing solutions ever since. I started as a project engineer, but for the past ten years I have focused on sales work. I now work mainly from the new office in Pietarsaari/Jakobstad, but I also travel often to visit customers and our head office in Nystad,” Gripenberg says.

Major deals strengthen UTG’s position as a global supplier of demanding mixing solutions

Jurgen-Rasch-Stelzer-

UTG Mixing Group has signed three major deals in the past month, illustrating how years of systematic development work have made it a notable challenger to other global players in large-scale mixing technology projects.

Stelzer Rührtechnik International GmbH, part of UTG Mixing Group, received three significant orders in the space of just one month, including one from South America and two from China.

The order from South America includes 12 mixers for the demanding chemical process of one of the leading international groups in its industry. The total value of the order is approximately EUR 1.5 million. The first order from China includes 6 mixers for polymer production reactors and represents an important new customer acquisition with high future potential. The total value of the order is in excess of EUR 0.6 million. The second order from China includes 24 high-end mixers for a polymer production process with a total value of approximately EUR 2.0 million.

“This is historically the highest contract value for a single order for Stelzer. During this year, Stelzer has clearly taken a step-up as a potential supplier for larger sized projects. We have a long-term relationship with this customer, but earlier we have not been awarded such big contracts. This deal really shows the lifetime performance of our equipment compared to local competition, as well as UTG Mixing Group’s capabilities within the chemical and polymer industry. The order further strengthens our workload for the coming year,” says Jussi Vaarno, Chief Operating Officer, UTG Mixing Group.

New market opening

“It has been great to see that we are now receiving more and more inquiries from globally operating technology and engineering companies. These three cases opened up for us a new market for bigger reactor agitators and new high demanding processes. In all cases we used CFD simulation to convince the customer. The cooperation and great effort of our agents and sales team was an excellent example of ‘Global competence served locally’ – in spite of the corona situation. We were able to overcome the challenge thanks to successful remote meetings, Stelzer’s very long history especially in the polymer business in China, and the support of our local agents close to the customers. The fact that we invested in consultation and were available to the client practically 24 hours a day also certainly had an impact,” thanks Jürgen Rasch, Director of Sales, Stelzer Rührtechnik International GmbH.

The South America order came from a global player in the chemical industry for rubber technology and includes also the assembly and start-up of the mixers.

“The second order from China, the biggest single order in our company’s history, is based on the long partnership between our customer in China and Stelzer. In recent years Stelzer has supplied some highly demanding agitators for reactors that the Stelzer service team has installed while also handling the start-up. The new order is a green field project for a new plant,” says Rasch.

Many targets achieved this spring despite the corona crisis

New UTG website

The corona crisis this spring was challenging in many ways for the UTG Mixing Group. Social distancing guidelines, hygiene requirements, travel restrictions and the resulting delivery delays by suppliers have not made day-to-day work easy.

“Nevertheless, it has been great to see how all our personnel have been able to handle the unexpected challenges in such an exemplary manner while also looking out for each other. Learning new ways of doing things, such as working remotely and meeting our customers while the voices of family members can be heard in the background, has even brought us closer together. Out of necessity, we have had to learn to utilize a wide range of digital services, appreciate our everyday routines and discover new opportunities. At the same time, we have achieved many of our targets, for which our entire personnel deserve a warm thank you,” says Jouko Peräaho, CEO, Plc Uutechnic Group Oyj.

Digitalization project nearing completion – new visuals and website published in June

The UTG Mixing Group has been moving in a positive direction in many areas over the past year. For example, the digitalization of processes in order to streamline operations is nearing completion. In addition to enabling us to improve our business, collaboration, performance and competitiveness, an integrated and state-of-the-art operating environment will enable us to provide added value to our customers in a variety of ways, such as through faster service.

This spring, we have clarified our visuals and message, which can be seen in our new Group website. The aim of creating a new website was to bring together the entire offerings of the UTG Mixing Group in order to better serve our various stakeholders. For example, the website highlights specific applications within different industries and presents concrete customer experiences.

“Our new website presents our clarified customer promise and what it means in practice: Partnerships built to last – and perform. We offer competitive mixing technology solutions that minimize lifecycle costs according to individual customer needs. We always serve our customers in the best possible way by bringing our global capabilities close to the customer locally. We deliver on our promises and always on time. This requires constant development from us, but we are motivated to do so because we want to be the best in our industry. The idea is that our reputation is only as good as our latest work,” Peräaho summarizes.
